Wednesday Aug 31, 2022
Wednesday Aug 31, 2022
While Claire is on sabbatical, join our guest host Kirsty Elderton as she listens to Kamal Ibrahim's experience in the arena.
Kamal Ibrahim migrated from Ethiopia with his family in 2003 at the age of 12 to escape civil war.-At that time, Kamal spoke no English and experienced all of the challenges that accompany settling into a new country, community and culture.
Kamal turned his passion for soccer into a way of communicating and connecting into his new environment. Kamal first played at his local club, progressed through the leagues and went on to play professional soccer, made appearances in the Socceroos - the Australian men’s football team.
Kamal has since combined his love of soccer and his experiences of moving countries into a not for profit program called One Ball–that supports children and young people with their physical and mental health through sport.
Kamal will be sharing the highs and lows of his journey and how being adaptable has served him well, the importance of this quality for our young people and how he integrates transformational coaching conversations into his work as a soccer coach.

S2 Episode 28: The Power of Empathy in Coaching with Beatrice Zornek and Friends
Wednesday Aug 03, 2022
Wednesday Aug 03, 2022
Do you really need more empathy to be an effective coach? Coach/ Supervisor Beatrice Zornek wrote in a Linked In post, "Clients need to trust the coach and to feel seen and supported. But “more empathy” is not a universal prescription like a supplement we should all take liberally.
High levels of empathy often come with risks. Like absorbing emotions in the coaching space. We can end up worrying or even digesting emotions on our clients’ behalf. This is tiring, disempowering and ineffective for the client (and ourselves)."
So we invited Beatrice to come and explore this more deeply with Claire Pedrick MCC at The Coaching Inn. She came along with two friends who are coaches and supervisors: Siobhán Cahalan and Todd Roache.

S2 Episode 23: Open Table - Business Builder for Coaches - Growing without Pressure
Wednesday Jun 29, 2022
Wednesday Jun 29, 2022
A great email came in recently: "I’ve listened to two episodes recently that really resonated with what I often wrestle with as coach. They were your conversation with Sarah Short from the Coaching Revolution and your Business Coaching Special. They highlighted for me a tension I constantly wrestle with, between (1) not promising outcomes because they are entirely dependent on on the work the client does and if we oversell it they might not get the outcomes they’d hoped vs (2) acknowledging what Sarah Short (and most of the marketing advice for coaches I’ve read) says that people buy outcomes and results and that we need to talk about what the coachee/thinker will get from coaching. Which also makes sense.
I would LOVE to know what you think about this tension between the two!! I’ve noticed that when I try and focus on my marketing, ideal client, niche, outcomes etc I end up feeling a huge pressure to deliver that for the client and it really impacts how I coach, as well as feeling like an integrity issue. I find it much harder to be ‘attentively not bothered’ when I’ve promised outcomes and I think it also impacts how the coachee/thinker shows up to the coaching.."
Sadly the sender of the email wasn't able to join us - but here are coaches Kerry Pocock and Nathan Whitbread in conversation with Claire Pedrick MCC
Takeaways
- The tension between promising outcomes and ethical coaching is significant.
- Holding space is crucial for effective coaching.
- Finding a niche can help differentiate a coach's services.
- Networking with diverse groups can enhance opportunities.
- Clear communication is essential in coaching conversations.
- Marketing should focus on authenticity and personal connection.
- Coaches must establish ethical boundaries in their practice.
- Investing in oneself is a key aspect of coaching.
- Clarity in messaging helps attract the right people.
- Coaching is about partnership and shared responsibility.
